The witching hour

                                             The witching hour

as the sun goes down behind the hills it casts flickering shadows on the wall like a witches spell. The clouds turn a peachy colour. the sky turns inky black and stars shine like flickering candles. The full moon casts an erie glow above the town.  suddenly out jumps a witch on a broomstick, a goblin prancing  on the roof tops, a golden dragon swoops across the town.A warm light dapples the town. good morning!

Room 8 persuasive writing

We have been considering ways to persuade people of our opinion.  We have written these about keeping takahe safe in Te Anau.  We wrote using some techniques like repetition, emotional language and rhetorical questions as we worked on our other writing skills.  Please read and enjoy our writing.

Ferrets versus birds

I live in a deep dark forest.  One lovely morning I went looking for food for my chicks.... but then I heard big loud feet thumping and it was a ferret, which is a terrible bad animal in the wild.  I've already been through this before.

Some believe that I'm a beautiful bird so people might want to see us more and more.  Everyone knows if you don't keep the park open, birds and animals will become extinct.  People love studying, and learning about animals that they don't even know about.

I think we should keep our wild parks open because I believe that the wild parks keep the endangered animals safe and protect them from predators like the ferret.  D.O.C guys feed, care, protect, save and rescue wild birds.

In my opinion you should keep the park open for education, saving, caring and feeding birds.  We have amazing wildlife parks and I hope you keep them open.

Help save the Takahe

Help save the Takahe!!!!

I am free to roam in the wild but I live in fear with all these flightless birds.

When I hear a strange sound in the leaf litter I run & hide in my den covered with green fluffy moss & brown crunchy leafs. There are huge poles everywhere with long wires connecting them altogether.  Please save us rare birds!!

Everyone knows we are getting smaller by numbers each day & as the days go by we will slowly start to die out and be extinct!!  Please help save us rare birds!!

If we are in the wildlife park everyone can study us closer & it'll be easier for science too.

When I am in a park nothing can hurt me and you can learn about us. Please help save us birds because we are getting smaller by numbers!HELP PLEASE!!

Save the Takahe

Me and my species are almost extinct.  I'm scared of hunters and predators around every corner.

First of all the takahe are almost extinct.  Their species are in danger.  The takahe have no shelter and protection.  Keep native birds alive.

Second of all people like tourists may never get to see them.  They are beautiful and special to New Zealand.  Tourists get to look at them at least one time becuase they're almost extinct and only in New Zealand.  Keep native birds alive.

Third they help the world.  They eat seeds and poop them out and grow plants.  The takahe can make trees grow and trees are important.  Trees can stop pollution and make oxygen.  Keep native birds alive.

In conclusion they are almost extinct, they are beautiful, they help the world. Everybody knows that the takahe should be in a the national park.  Keep native birds alive.

This is when we where doing speeches

Save The Takahe

Save The Takahe

I feel happy, healthy and safe here at D.O.C with all my friends and there's no stoats or ferrets here at D.O.C. I want D.O.C to keep me safe and healthy. I think D.O.C should spend money because the takahe will be happy. Save the takahe.

I certainly agree that the wildlife park should stay open because it's good for the environment. Secondly people can look after the takahe and give them food so they won't starve, goats and other animals eat their other food in the wild and then they won't have any food and starve. Save the takahe.

In the wildlife park people can look at the takahe and learn more about them. The takahe will attract visitors because they're so beautiful and interesting. Save the takahe.

I believe we can help the takahe by donating money for food and shelter where they will be safe and healthy. The public can find out more about them. Save the takahe.

Saving the takahe

                   Saving the takahe

I see crispy leaves and my step brother and sister are teasing me about not being able to fly and a rodent crawled into the nest while I am crunching on a worm. I wish I was safe not worrying about the pests. Everyone knows the park should be open no matter what.

We don't want our birds to be extinct do we? How we can make sure this doesn't happen is to not kill the birds and put the birds in a wildlife park. If we keep the park everyone will know a lot about birds because there are signs that tell you things about the birds.

If you don't keep the wildlife park you will have a lot of work making sure the birds don't be extinct. So it will be easier if you keep the wildlife park.

In my opinion you should help the flightless birds because they are beautiful and loving creatures. Lots of people don't want the birds to be extinct.

In my opinion we shouldn't worry about the pests and put the birds in a wildlife park. It will be much easier if you keep the wildlife park and people will learn things because of the signs also you should help the flightless birds.

Save the takahe

In the wild I can't see any wild animals at the moment.  The beautiful birds are tweeting. Suddenly I hear a noise coming from the tree and I think it might be a possum to steal my eggs.

I think people who look after the animals do good because they take tours and they work for them.  They feed them and show the flightless birds.  Please keep us safe and keep the wild life park open.

They should keep the wild life park open because they are part of life.  They should have fun too and let them have food and be safe from predators.

I believe that people should be educated and give donations to the birds and get food and shelter and be safe. Please keep the wild life park open.

Wildlife Park

I'm free from pests. The ferrets and stoats will kill me if I'm in the wild I could get killed from those bad pests. Please keep the wild life park going.

Everyone will want to see the birds. We could have signs because people could learn about lots of different birds. New Zealand has lots of flightless birds.  Keep the wild life park open because people could see all of the wild birds.

Everyone will want to see the birds. We could have signs because people could learn about lots of different birds. New Zealand has lots of flightless birds. Keep the wild life park open because people could see all wild birds.

People will never see the takahe if they are extinct and that will be really really bad. So many other birds have been made extinct and we aren't  able to learn about them if they are no longer on earth.

Finally I want to say that the takahe should be free from pests ferrets and stoats. Takahe and other endangered birds could get killed from those bad pests. People could learn about all kinds of birds and people would never see the takahe if they are extinct.

Wildlife Park

I'm so happy that I'm away from those silly old pests.   I'm safe here from the ferrets and the other pests.  They feed me in my little green bowl.  They are like my own family I hop over to my green dish that blends in to the green bush . They move the dish so its  as if I'm in the wild trying to  find my own food.

I think that you should keep the Te Anau wildlife park open because the birds are safe from the pests. If you did not leave the wildlife park open then the birds will be in danger.  That is why you should keep the wildlife park open.

You should keep the wildlife park open because then you will get more money because people from all over the world because most of the people would not have seen most of the bird and probably not a kiwi or a Takahe which are only found in NZ. Keep the wildlife park open .

Hurt and flightless birds or maybe frightened birds will be safe in a cage you are like their family   that takes care of  the hurt and scared birds and you will be there for them.  That is why you should keep the wildlife park open .

In my opinion I think that you should keep the pests out and keep the hurt birds safe then people can learn about the birds.  That is why you should keep the wildlife park open.

Saving the takahe

I'm a free bird in bush and I'm being chased by a stoat but luckily he got stuck in a stoat trap. I said "Don't kill me and I'll let you go." "Ok" he said so I let him go.  I utterly agree that they should keep the national park open.

People could see the takahe. They could learn more about them and see what they look like. They also can hear what they sound like.

They should also keep open the Te Anau wild life park open so people don't hunt them.

Takahe should be safe people and pests. They should also keep the Te Anau national park open so people can learn more.

Keep Te Anau wildlife park open

Keep Te Anau wild life park open

I'm scared and I 'm lost in the wild by myself, I wish I had a owner. Will you help me?

Suddenly I hear a rustle... ahh its a ferret. He chases me then I try to fly. I imagine what it would be like to be safe in a building.

Two weeks later I see people and they are holding weird thing's that go click, click, click.  I think it's called a camera. Well everyone knows that we are nearly extinct I guess.

Suddenly I get caught by a man in a black suit with a net. Then he takes me into a building then back outside except this time into a big field with a barb wire fence above and around. I think he put me here because we are nearly extinct and this keeps pests out.

I want to keep Te Anau wild life park open because it keeps native birds safe from becoming extinct and that's why they should cage them, help them and keep them safe from predators so endangered flightless birds don't become extinct.

Save the Takahe

                                Save the Takahe

I'm a free bird in a bush and I'm a being chased by a stoat but luckily he got trapped in a stoat trap. Can you please not let me be killed? Save me and try to make a safe home for me.

I certainly agree that the park should stay open because it's good for the environment. It means that the birds can have an open space to be free.

Secondly the Takahe is a beautiful bird and it might be someone's favourite bird so I think instead of killing them we should save them. Try to make a safe home for the Takahe.

In my opinion you should make a home for the Takahe because tourists and other people learn about the Takahe and that means they'll be saved and we should save the trees because if there are no trees they can't breed. So donate for the Takahe and try to teach people about them.

Lastly you should save the Takahe because I would like my children to see a real and not just a picture or a statue. So save the Takahe.

It is clear that you should save flightless birds instead of letting them be killed, because they are beautiful birds and so people can learn about them and so that my children can see a real Takahe. So try to make a safe home for the Takahe. Save the Takahe.

Save the National Park

Takahes life without protection

I'm scared and I am lost and afraid and I am in the wild. "Oh no" I hear something in the bushes I think it is a stoat. Where can I go for safety?  Protect the takahe.

I think we should protect the takahe because they are native birds and are endangered. So we should protect the takahe because they keep dying so we need to protect them.  Protect the takahe.

The birds help the trees and the trees make oxygen so we can keep making oxygen and air.  Protect the takahe.

Finally we need to keep the wildlife park open because the flightless birds are dying and we do not want the flightless birds to be extinct.

SAVE THE KIWI

I'm a kiwi in the lovely forests of Fiordland.  I hate hunters they can kill me with their guns. Ferrets can kill my eggs.

We need to save the kiwi because they are limited in population.  Everyone knows we should keep the wildlife parks open.  So we can all help save the kiwi.

Pests like stoats, ferrets and weasels can cause damage to the population of the kiwi's and other rare bird's.  It is fair that the kiwi should be saved.

We can all help keep the kiwi food source up and if we don't kiwi will die. I think that we should save native bird's of New Zealand.  SAVE THE KIWI.
Save the kiwi's habitat and keep the wild life park's  open because if we don't kiwi will DIE .
Make sure we keep takahe livestock up by keeping the breeding program going. Save the takahes eggs.

SAVE THE RARE BIRDS OF NZ.

Save the Takahe

Save the Takahe

"I love this wild life protection centre but I hate the wild.  I can run around and be free but when I'm in the wild I can't do anything but hide. When I'm in here no pests can get me but when I'm in the wild pests try to kill me. All they need is a bigger cage. D.O.C could protect us from all our enemies like ferrets and stoats."

When Takahe become extinct it would be the same as human kind becoming extinct because Takahe and humans are both living creatures. Humans are needed on the earth so are Takahe because they help each other survive.

People want  to know more about Takahe. If we kill all the Takahe people will not know anything about the Takahe. People want to see one because they are a beautiful bird.

Takahe help the environment. When a Takahe eats a piece of fruit it spits out all the seeds and a new tree/bush will grow in its place.

In conclusion I think we should save the Takahe because they help the environment .They educate people and because Takahe are just like humans because we are both important on this earth.

Saving Takahe for life.

                                                           Saving Takahe

You must help the Takahe because imagine being a flightless bird (for a example a Takahe) because as you know Takahe's can't fly so let's start by thinking about being a Takahe. You're in a wild bush with a stoat about to attack you. There is only horrible mossy creek water and no food! How would you feel? Or imagine being in a warm cozy enclosure with all your friends and lots of food and water that is fresh. How would you feel then? Please keep Takahe safe and Please help us!

What would you like? A nice safe warm cage or a horrid cold wet bush. I know it all sound weird but it's true about stoats about to attack Takahe but we are all counting on you D.O.C! Everyone knows you should help takahe! Please help us!

I would love you to donate to the wildlife park because it is very amazing. Takahes have blue and green feathers and red beaks. The national park is counting on you to save the takahes beauty and the wild life park! Please help us!

Help us please because the wild life park can show you what animals look like! It can focus you on animals by putting up signs telling you what is what. Takahes are amazing! Please help us!

They are nearly extinct and very rare species so save us PLEASE!!!!!!!! We are loosing our number second by second so we don't want us to loose our takahe. We need all the support! Please help us!

It is clear that we can give them a safe warm cage and also keep it open because it can show you what animals look like donations help takahe and their beauty! They are needing your help because they are rare! PLEASE HELP US!

Save the takahe.

Save The Takahe.

"I am endangered! Stoats have taken my eggs and I can do nothing about it! So can you save my species from getting killed please!"

If the native birds are in the wild a lot of damage will come upon them then all of the native birds will be extinct from the world.  I am sure you already agree that the population is dropping every day.

So can you please place some donations around New Zealand and save our species from dying. Save us.

The native birds are nearly extinct by pest animals. We can also help by making money by donating. So I think that you should keep Te Anau wild life park open.

Keep wildlife park open

                                        Save the Takahe

Ha ha, I am looking at the animals outside the cage. They are watching us having so much fun when they are starving to death out there, then this guy comes in closing the door behind him. Then all the birds start flying over except me because I walk.

Everyone knows that the takahe are endangered and nearly extinct so we need to keep the  wildlife park open.

Please keep the wildlife park OPEN because most of the birds are endangered and it is interesting looking at all the different birds that you've never seen before. People can learn about New Zealand birds by hearing, watching and reading signs. You can help them from not dying by protecting them from pests so please keep wildlife park open.

So this is why we need to save the takahe because they are already endangered. You can learn from hearing, watching and reading signs. You can help them not die so please keep the wildlife park open. :)

Takahe

Takahe

I'm in the middle of the forest trying to find my brother. We were playing hide and seek but now it feels like I'm starring in a horror movie.  Do you really want the animals to feel like this?

Animals are just like us so they so they should be treated like us.  Everyone knows that I'm in danger so please do something to save me. If you don't do anything to save me from extinction, people won't be able to see me in zoo's.

I think people might like me because I'm an awesome flightless bird. I know that you know that the Takahe is a living breathing thing and it should be treated like us and the Takahe is almost extinct. I think we should do more to try to save it.

People might like to see me in zoo's and in the wild life. Save the takahe.

Keeping the Te Anau wilde life park open

Keep the Te Anau Wild Life Park Open.

Please keep the wild life park open.  People would like to explore the Te Anau wildlife park and people would like to see what wild life sound like, look like and act like.

Some tourists would like to visit Te Anau  wildlife park and see Te Anau and see the endangered
New Zealand birds. The park would help conserve these birds.

So please save us flightless birds before we are extinct and use us to educate others about us. Keep  wild life park open.

Keep Te Anau wildlife park open

Hi I am in a bush and I am hunting for insect and bugs to eat because I am hungry and getting food for my babies because they have hatched. But I live in the bird life park in Te Anau but now I don't because they shut it down and I can't survive without humans. I can hardly hunt without getting killed. Don't you think you should keep me safe? Keep birds safe.

Birds can't survive in the wild without people and they can't get help in the wild.  If they get hurt flightless birds could get eaten by rodents. Keep birds safe.

If birds eat all the food they won't get enough food in the future because it will be all gone because of the pests and they won't able to find food. Keep birds safe.

Think of a stoat eating a bird how sad and no more beautiful birds because they have been eaten so keep Te Anau wildlife park open if you care about New Zealand's birds. Keep birds safe.

You must keep the wildlife park open so people can see the beautiful birds. If it is open they won't get eaten by rodents and they will get a lot more food at the Te Anau wildlife park. Keep birds safe.

Save the takahe

Ferns are as far as the eye can see, black spiders scuttle to and fro. I am hopping back to my nest in the bush. Suddenly I see a ferret, eyes glinting, fangs stained. I try to hop faster but my foot is stuck in a plastic bag. The ferret leaps towards me and grabs my wing and tears it apart with its teeth. Save the takahe!

At the Te Anua wildlife park these flightless birds would be safe from predators. This park also properly feeds and cares for these animals. Tourists can visit them.  Save the takahe!

Everybody knows that the takahe have become endangered and are on the road to extinction. Plus the Te Anua wild life park is a social place that helps with native learning. Save the takahe!

Are you really going to let this go on? If not, this might change your mind. They are beautiful flightless creatures, they attract tourists and they are becoming extinct. Save the takahe!

Keep Te Anau wildlife park open

Keep Te Anau wild life park open

I'm flying around the trees watching life go by.  I fly down to a branch.  I see a ferret hopping though the  broken branches and leaves.  The sound has stopped.  It's a tree being chopped down, it hits the ground like a bomb.  Some times I wonder what it would feel like to be in a wildlife park.  You could not be killed by ferrets and you could breed.

I agree we should keep the park open so these beautiful birds can live.   Keep Te Anau wildlife park open.

Firstly you can teach people about birds and tourists will pay money to see them. Also they are only in New ZeaLand they have beautiful feathers to. They are endangered so to prevent them becoming extinct we need to protect them.  Keep Te Anau wildlife park open.

You must help the flightless birds. Tourists will pay money and  that will help keep the wildlife park open and you educate them.  Prevent extinction keep Te Anau wildlife park open.

Takahes

Takahes are beautiful birds.  Please keep the takahes safe in a wildlife park.  Please keep the grass neat for the takahes to eat.  Ferrets can kill takahes, so that is why they are endangered.

Please keep the takahes safe. A fence would help because takahes are peckish.  Takahes can't fly away then.

I know you agree that takahes are beautiful birds.  A fence at a wildlife park will help the takahes.  Please keep the wildlife park open.

SAVE THE TAKAHE

  SAVE  THE TAKAHE

Last night I was on top of my eggs ...when I heard this sound ...meow! I saw a cat prowling around. I was terrified about my babies. SAVE THE TAKAHE.

We need  our native birds because they are very special and beautiful. They have blue and green feathers with beautiful long red beaks. SAVE THE TAKAHE.

Secondly we can attract visitors by setting up a website. This is what we say ...the more you come the less money you spend!

Lastly we can make visitors pay money. So that we can have enough money to prevent extinction SAVE THE TAKAHE.

In my opinion, I think we should keep Te Anau Wildlife Park open because the birds in it are beautiful, they attract visitors, and they give us money to save the Takahe.

SAVE THE PARK - OLIVE

                          Save the park

"Ha ha" I say to the pests behind the bar. I'm safe here they feed me, they care for me, they feel like another family. Then I hopped over to my food which was in a green dish to blend in to all the wild life that they made for all the birds. It makes me feel at home but a safe one.

Birds die every day and I believe that we can help them survive, by keeping the wildlife park in Te Anau open.  Then we can save NZ birds from extinction, and in our park we can keep all the birds away from all the pests that might eat their eggs or them! So help save the park .

It will be a big tourist attraction and people will learn about birds so it will educate people, and people will pay money which will keep the park open. Help save the park .

In my opinion we should  keep the wild life park open because it will save the birds from extinction  and keep them away from pests.  It will be a big tourist attraction which will get money to keep it going. So help save the park.

Save the Takahe

                       Save the takahe

If the birds were in the wild the egg will get stolen by stoats.  But if the birds were in the nest in the wild life park they are safe.

.
People like to visit the park. They might want to study the takahe. They can find out about them and see a bird that doesn't fly. NZ has lots of flightless birds but it is hard to see them unless they are in a park.

The birds will be safer in the wild life park. People might want to study the birds.  A park provides this.

Save The Takahe

                                                 Save the takahe

I want to feel safe in a cage around me and a safe careful owner that looks after me like a family.  I can imagine it! An owner feeding me, protecting me! I'm free from the pests that hunt me down, use me as their slaves then kill me when I can't do any more. I can not fly. I am endangered. I am the takahe.

Almost everybody knows that the takahe is endangered and so are many other birds there are 37 different species that need our help. Please help keep birds safe.

We could attract visitors to a park and make some signs about the birds. They are very beautiful.  We need birds. They help the population of trees and trees grow food that we eat. Please help keep birds safe.

How would you feel if you were a bird and you died?

Endangered birds need to feel safe, free from the pests that hunt them down. There are 37 different species that need our help. We need birds and a park to view them in. Please help keep birds safe.

Kiwi

KIWI

I am free to roam but in the wild
but I live in fear with all these pests around. Whenever there is a unusual sound on the leaf litter, I run for my life to my burrow but I wasn't running on the leaf litter anymore I was in the hands of a human.I started screaming for help''help I don't want to be extinct." Suddenly everything turned pitch black.

I was in a burrow, I started wandering out of the burrow and saw other flightless birds such as Kakapo,Takahe & other Kiwi.  But there was something unusual about a sign in our enclosure saying help save flightless birds & the wildlife park.there was also  a man who was repeating himself saying "help us save, the endangered New Zealand birds
from stoats, rats, cats & dogs''.

Please help us save New Zealand's endangered birds too by raising money to keep Te Anau wildlife park open, so they can breed these birds to save their species. Please help save NZ flightless birds from stoats, rats ,cats and dogs.

Science byhugo

We have been learning about science and been so much fun and been using
salt baking powder sugar and sand and stones
